"I have been a philosophy user for several years now and i must say this is probably my least-favorite product I have used to date. i would give every other philosophy product i've used four to five stars, so you can imagine my disappointment when i used this. from the look of other reviews it appears my experience is unique, so i'm guessing it has something to do with my skin type. i have very oily skin and my pores generally clog up a bit by the end of the day. however, it seems this product penetrates and then seals my pores so that the sebum that gets released throughout the day becomes trapped. the end result is completely disastrous. looking in the mirror at the end of the day after using this product, i can actually see the sebum buildup lodged in my pores - making them look huge, oily, and dirty. this is disgusting, but it looks like microscopic balls of wax are just stuck in there, and no amount of cleansing can get them out. i eventually have to squeeze them out, which is not only unpleasant, but makes my skin inflamed and my pores look huge for days to follow. i know it's this product because i've never had this problem in my life, and anytime i use it, this happens. anyway, the one-star rating is based on my experience, and i understand this product works very well for some. however, if you have oily skin, i would urge you to take caution."

great without make-up

"This is a lovely product if you're happy with a make-up free face. I use mineral makeup and it just won't stick to my face when I use this product! but, I often go make-up free and when I do, this is my go-to product. I wear it instead of my regular moisturizer and it gives my face a beautiful, smooth, matte finish.
if you're looking for a great moisturizer for under your make-up, I must recommend "divine illumination.""

"i love the present. I have been using it for about 6 weeks. I don't use it everyday, but on the days I do, i hardly need any foundation at all (i use mineral makeup). I still need concealer for under my eyes, but that is it. I love the matte, smooth feeling of my skin. this is my new favorite philosophy product!!"

"This is amazing stuff. It does everything it says and more. I can actually leave the house without any face makeup when I am wearing this. It looks great with mineral makeup too, but I would not wear it with regular liquid makeup as it balls up underneath."

"I've been using The present for four months now on a daily basis, and I just love it! I have a lot of redness on my cheeks, as well as oily skin, and this product rids me of all of my facial flaws. I look perfectly matte, though moisturized, before I apply my mineral makeup. I recommend it to everyone that asks me about a good primer. My only gripe is the lavender scent, which is strong, but it fades very quickly."

"i love this product! I don't wear make-up everyday, but I always put on my present. It gives my skin a beautiful, matte, polished look. I feel great with the present, a little blush/bronzer, mascara and lip gloss. just ran out and reordered. i'm waiting for it to arrive and I'm not happy without my present!"

Does not work under foundation

"I have read the reviews here and I'm pretty surprised at how glowing most of them are. First off, this product STINks! as in literally. kinda like bad fish. second, i wanted to use it to go under my foundation to fill in the pores and tiny lines my 35 yr old skin has aquired. it did not work at all!!! i let it dry at least 5 minutes before applying my true blend liquid foundation, but it was exactly like trying to spread a glue stick onto my skin. the foundation wouldn't spread or soak in at all. my skin instantly flaked and the foundation looked like chalk on my face. because i put my makeup on at work, i now have ashy splotchy skin for the day. i am a regular user of hope in a jar, hope in a tube, grace shampoo & conditioner and the lip stuff in the jar (can't remember the name.) love all those products but this one isn't for me. perhaps it will help seal in moisturizer at night. if that doesn't work, I will pass it on to someone else to see if they have better luck than me."

"i bought the present because i read that you can wear it to bed to seal in your night routine and make your face look good at the same time. for the most part, the present does what it promises. at the end of my routine i'd apply and wait the 2 minutes or so for it to set and my skin would appear matte, come morning it would look nice. but, i find that the present has a slight scent that is off putting enough for my boyfriend to cringe away in his sleep when i try to kiss him goodnight. i have since shelved it, and my skin seems to be doing fine without."

"I have been looking for something that would just "fill in the holes" without a tint to it. this is perfect! it gives my skin a perfect finish and takes care of the large pores that i'm still working to lessen. this is great alone or under makeup! it's a great makeup primer, no more worries about getting the foundation "stuck" in the large pores and making them look more noticeable and larger. great product!"

"i love this primer, goes on smooth, feels great and fills in all the little cracks of dry skin and fine lines. love to wear this on days when I don't wear makeup. it just makes my face look flawless. it is also great to wear to sleep as it really does seal in all the moisture and treatment products. will never be without this product!"

"i love the present, i use it every day! it is a great mattifier without leaving my skin looking ashy or dull. it minimizes my pores, makes my skin look even and polished, and helps to keep me shine free. i use it under or without makeup. my mom loves it also and she has drier skin. she loves it so much that she has "stolen" two tubes from me!"

"the present definitely helps my make up stay on better than without using a primer, but i would never wear it alone because while it makes my face look "airbrushed" it also makes it look dull. i wish it made my skin glowy! and oh the smell! it seems to help with oiliness a little, so i will probably use the rest of the bottle, but i don't know if i will buy more... if it had spf i would definitely continue to use it!"

"i use this in combination with my philosophy supernature foundation. it has no color to it and takes a little time to dry, but it keeps my foundation on well and does not break me out like others have. it leaves skin feeling very soft."

"i love this stuff! at first I did not think i liked it, i used it under my normal foundation the first time, and then the next time i used it alone, I could actually see a difference - for me it works better w/out the foundation - which is from another brand - so perhaps i will try some of the philosophy powders on top of this and see what happens. I use purity, hope in a jar and when hope is not enough before i put the present on - and it is awesome, i have never ever had skin this soft in my life and I am almost 40! I have never spent this much money on a skin care, usually when i purchase anything, i am sorely disappointed, so i gave up, but a friend talked me into this and i owe her big time....it does smell a little strange, but i am used to it now and it does go away after a min or so....don't let that stop you from trying it..."

"i can't live without 'THE PRESENT"!!!! I have super oily skin, so much so that i can see beads of oil coming out of my pores about 15 minutes after i wash my face, yes suuuuuuper oily! when i take pictures it looks like i poured cooking oil on my face! YUK!!! so, i use "never let them see you shine" cleanser then "the present" then transluscent powder for oily skin from another brand and voila! about 75% of the shine is gone! after 20 years of suffering from super oily skin I finally found the cure! thanks a bunch philosphy!!!""

"I had high hopes for this product but it fell flat. I tried it over my moisturizer and it dried my skin out. I've never really had a problem with dry facial skin so I was unpleasantly surprised this product actually had a negative effect on my skin. Also, like the Supernatural make up that I've tried before, it fell far short of claims of evening out skintone or hiding pores or fine lines. i think I'm done giving philosophy a try."

"I got this product for 2 reasons, I have oily skin but I also recenty started getting pretty bad patchy dry spots for some weird reason. So I wanted to try something that might help seal in my moisturizer. This does a pretty good job, and helps even out my skin tone pretty well. I don't think it's a "miracle product", but it does a good job and I've worked it in to my every day routine. I love the fact that it's rich and creamy yet it doesn't make my face feel really greasy and gross like some of the other heavier moisturizers out there. The smell did kind of bother me at first, I don't know why. but after using it for a while I've kind of gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me anymore. Overall, I totally recommend this product for anyone to try if they're looking to even out their skin tone and looking for a great base under their makeup. Especially if you don't like to wear a lot of foundation like me. I just wear a little bit of mineral powder over it and that's it!"

"i tried this product based on the reviews i read here and im afraid to say it wasnt for me. I have oily skin around my nose and chin and i was hoping for something that would assist in managing that/minimizing pores/ect. when i tried this it did make my skin look even in some parts (i.e. areas like my checks/that do not have pigmentation/oil issues). However there were issues with this product making my skin look flakey and i had trouble putting make up over the product (even after leting it "set" for well over the two minutes it recommends prior to application). i tried adjusting the amount of the product i used, the places i used it, ect, but still issues. my boyfriend, who generally doesn't notice anything about my make-up, even said something about it looking cakey and said "i looked like a zombie""
